The application of geotextiles in engineering can effectively improve the quality and life of the project, while having economic and environmental benefits.
Geotextile is a synthetic material widely used in civil engineering and environmental engineering, mainly used for reinforcement, separation, filtration, drainage and protection. Geotextile is usually made of synthetic fibers such as polyester and polypropylene, and is processed by weaving, needle punching, melt blowing and other processes. The following are several main types of geotextiles and their applications:
Main types
1. Non-woven geotextile
- Needle punched non-woven fabric: Made by needle punching process, it has good water permeability and filtration.
- Thermal bonded non-woven fabric: The fibers are bonded to each other by heating, and have high strength and stability.
2. Woven geotextile
- Synthetic fibers are woven into cloth through weaving process, which has high tensile strength and durability.
Main functions
1. Separation: Placing geotextile between different soil layers can prevent the mixing of materials and maintain the independence of each layer of materials.
2. Filtration: Allows water to pass through the geotextile while blocking soil particles from passing through, thereby preventing soil loss.
3. Drainage: Helps to remove excess water from the soil and keep the soil dry.
4. Reinforcement: Enhances the bearing capacity and stability of the soil and prevents soil deformation and slippage.
5. Protection: Protects the waterproof layer or other geotechnical structures to prevent them from being damaged.
Application areas
1. Highway and railway construction: Used for roadbed reinforcement, embankment protection, etc.
2. Water conservancy projects: Such as anti-seepage and reinforcement of dams and rivers.
3. Tunnel and underground engineering: Used for waterproofing, anti-seepage and drainage systems.
4. Environmental engineering: Anti-seepage, isolation and drainage systems of landfills.
5. Construction engineering: Used for roof greening, basement waterproofing, etc.
