Why is geomembrane waterproof?
Release time:

The reason why geomembrane is waterproof is mainly due to the low permeability of its polymer material, special anti-seepage substrate and composite structure design, as well as its wide application and verification in actual engineering.
Why is geomembrane waterproof?
Material properties
Polymer materials: Geomembrane is a waterproof barrier material based on polymers, such as polyethylene (PE, including HDPE, LDPE, LLDPE, etc.), polyvinyl chloride (PVC), polyurethane, etc. These materials themselves have good waterproof properties.
Low permeability: Geomembrane has very low permeability, and its permeability coefficient is usually less than 10^-11cm/s, which means that it is almost impermeable and can effectively prevent the penetration of water or other liquids.
Special structure and design
Impermeable substrate: Geomembrane is mainly made of plastic film as an impermeable substrate. This substrate has a tight molecular structure that can prevent water from passing through.
Composite structure: Some geomembranes are also composited with materials such as non-woven fabrics. This composite structure not only enhances the tensile strength and elongation of the geomembrane, but also further improves its waterproof performance.
Waterproof principle
Isolation effect: In engineering construction, geomembranes are laid on the foundation soil to form a tight waterproof barrier that effectively prevents water from penetrating into the foundation soil.
Anti-aerogel performance: Geomembrane also has anti-aerogel performance, which can prevent gas from passing through, which to a certain extent also enhances its waterproof effect.
Widely used and verified
Water conservancy projects: In water conservancy projects such as reservoirs, dams, and canals, geomembranes are widely used in anti-seepage, vertical anti-seepage layers, construction cofferdams, slope protection, etc., and their waterproof performance has been fully verified.
Environmental protection field: In environmental protection projects such as landfills and sewage treatment plants, geomembranes are used to prevent pollutants from penetrating into the soil and groundwater, avoiding environmental pollution, which also proves its excellent waterproof performance.
