Geogrid is a major geosynthetic material. It is a two-dimensional grid or a three-dimensional grid screen with a certain height made of high molecular polymers such as polypropylene and polyvinyl chloride through thermoplasticization or molding. In general, different types of geogrids have different characteristics and applicable scenarios, and the selection needs to be considered according to specific engineering needs.
The classification of geogrids is mainly based on their materials and manufacturing processes. Common classifications include the following:
1.Plastic geogrid:
It is a polymer mesh material with a square or rectangular shape formed by stretching.
According to the different stretching directions during its manufacturing, it can be divided into unidirectional stretching and bidirectional stretching. Unidirectional stretching grids are made by stretching only along the length of the plate, while bidirectional stretching grids are made by continuing to stretch the unidirectional stretching grid in a direction perpendicular to its length.
Due to the directional stretching during the manufacturing process, the polymer molecules are oriented along the stretching direction, which strengthens the connection between the molecular chains, thereby greatly improving its tensile strength. It is easy to cut and connect on site, and the construction is simple.
2.Steel-plastic geogrid:
High-strength steel wire (or other fibers) is specially treated, and polyethylene (PE) is added with other additives. It is extruded to make it a composite high-strength tensile strip, and the surface has rough embossing, which is a high-strength reinforced geogrid.
This type of single belt is woven or sandwiched at a certain spacing in the longitudinal and transverse directions, and its intersection is welded using a special enhanced bonding fusion welding technology to form it.
It has the characteristics of high strength, low creep, and adaptability to various environmental soils.
Compared with traditional grids, it has the characteristics of high strength, strong bearing capacity, corrosion resistance, anti-aging, large friction coefficient, uniform holes, convenient construction, and long service life.
3.Glass fiber geogrid:
A mesh structure material made of glass fiber using a certain weaving process.
In order to protect the glass fiber and improve the overall performance, it will undergo a special coating treatment process.
It has the characteristics of high strength, high modulus, good wear resistance, and good thermal stability.
It has good compatibility with road mixtures and can greatly improve the wear resistance and shear capacity of geogrids.
4.Polyester warp knitted polyester geogrid:
It is made of high-strength polyester polyester fiber as raw material.
It has extremely high tensile strength, small elongation, corrosion resistance, and aging resistance.
It has a strong bite force with the base material, is light in weight, and has a drainage effect.
In addition, there are some special types of geogrids according to specific application scenarios, such as mining geogrids, which are specially designed and manufactured for false roof support and tunnel support of underground coal mine mining working faces.
