How do you weld a geomembrane?

The two most common methods for geomembrane liner welding are: Hot wedge welding and Extrusion welding.
Geomembrane liners are widely used for waterproofing and seepage control in landfills, fish ponds, aquaculture farms, wastewater treatment plants, mining projects, reservoirs, and containment facilities. But how do you weld a geomembrane correctly?

A reliable geomembrane welding process is essential because the quality of the seams directly affects the overall performance and watertightness of the liner system.
The two most common methods for geomembrane liner welding are: Hot wedge welding and Extrusion welding
Hot Wedge Welding
Hot wedge welding is widely used for long, straight seams in HDPE and other thermoplastic geomembranes.
A wedge welding machine heats the overlapping geomembrane surfaces and then applies pressure to create a continuous welded seam.
This method is particularly suitable for large areas because the welding machine can continuously weld long seams with consistent speed and temperature.
Extrusion Welding
Extrusion welding is commonly used for details, corners, repairs, T-joints, penetrations, and areas where automatic wedge welding is difficult.
An extrusion welding machine melts compatible thermoplastic material and deposits it along the joint between two geomembrane sheets.
Before extrusion welding, the geomembrane surface may need to be properly prepared, including grinding or cleaning where required.
Extrusion welding is especially useful for complicated geomembrane details that cannot be completed effectively with an automatic wedge welder.

We provide professional geomembrane welding equipment designed for efficient, reliable, and high-quality HDPE geomembrane installation. Our welding solutions include automatic hot wedge welding machines and extrusion welding machines, suitable for long seams, corners, repairs, penetrations, and other complex applications. With stable welding performance and precise control of temperature, speed, and pressure, our equipment helps contractors achieve strong, consistent, and watertight geomembrane seams. Whether you are working on a landfill, aquaculture pond, wastewater treatment plant, mining project, reservoir, or other containment application, we can provide suitable geomembrane welding machines and technical support according to your project requirements.
